Romania is one of the three countries that carry the bulk of European wire harness production. Together with Poland and Hungary it accounts for roughly 60 percent of the continent's conventional harness capacity, and it is the part of that block with the strongest growth, driven substantially by electric vehicle programmes.

EV harnesses change the shortage picture rather than removing it. High-voltage architectures need different connector families, and a new programme ramping in a plant that was previously building conventional harnesses means a supply chain that has no history with those part numbers. The first time a new family goes on allocation, nobody in the building has a fallback channel for it.

Sumitomo Electric, Leoni and Aptiv all manufacture harnesses in Romania. We supply the connectors, terminals and seals that go into those builds, specifically at the end of the market that standard distribution cannot cover: parts on allocation, parts on lead times measured in quarters rather than weeks, and parts discontinued while the programme they belong to is still in production.

Romania and Bulgaria are neighbours and both are inside the European Union. There are no customs formalities on the shipment and no import duty, and the road distance from Sofia is short enough that freight into a Romanian plant is genuinely quick once the part itself has been found.
